Storing skis, bikes and winter tyres the right way

Short answer: 1 m² is enough for four tyres, two pairs of skis and one bike. A family with skis, boards, bikes and two sets of tyres needs 1.5 to 2 m², especially in Saalfelden with 3 m ceilings where bikes can be hung up. Tyres stand upright or lie stacked, skis are stored dry with maintained edges, and e-bike batteries go home with you.

Tyres

Wash and dry tyres before storing, mark the position with chalk, for example FL for front left. Stack complete wheels flat, stand tyres without rims upright. Keep away from grease, solvents and electric motors, which a storage unit naturally does.

Skis and snowboards

After the season have the edges ground and apply a layer of wax that protects the bases over summer. Reduce binding tension. Skis belong in a breathable bag, not an airtight sack where residual moisture condenses. The units are ventilated and sensor-monitored, so humidity is not an issue.

Bikes and e-bikes

Inflate the tyres, clean and oil the chain, and hang the bike if possible. In Saalfelden the 3 m ceiling allows a wall mount above your boxes. The e-bike battery stays at home, stored at 30 to 60 percent charge. Damaged or swollen batteries must not go into the unit.

Changeover dates

In the Pinzgau, late October and mid April have proven to be good changeover dates. If you store gear for both seasons, book with a 12-month term and save 15 percent. You can reach your things daily from 6 am to 10 pm by code, including the weekend before the first snow.
